The Concept of Subtraction
Throughout my CI-3030 (Investigating Mathematics and Learning) course, we studied the concept of subtraction and the complexity behind it. At the start of the class, we created a concept map based off our knowledge of subtraction. In total, we made four maps, adding on new concepts we learned during this course.
Along with these maps, we looked at the different ways of thinking in children and we also analyzed student work where we held a Diagnostic Interview with three different leveled students to assess their understanding. Mathematics may be a difficult subject to handle but when broken down into the concept of subtraction itself, another level of complexity is introduced.
Below you will find an image of my final concept map laying out all of the concepts I learned on subtraction.
